Editorial policy
Every fact here is small and useless, which is exactly why it has to be right. A useless fact that turns out to be false is just a lie with no upside. This page states plainly how each one is produced, what has been checked, and what has not.
Who publishes this
Mataeology is an independent, non-commercial project operated from Bulgaria by a single person. There is no newsroom and no advertising, and nothing on the site is paid placement. Mataeology Editorial is the name for that operator acting in the review role described below, not a claim about the size of a team.
How a fact is written
A draft fact is generated by a large language model, Google Gemini, prompted to produce one verifiable claim, the question a reader would search for, a short explanation of why it is considered true, and two to four sources. The model is instructed never to invent a source, and to return fewer sources instead of guessing.
A generated draft is not published. It is added to a review queue and waits there.
How sources are chosen and checked
Reference works, standards bodies, museums, universities, and peer-reviewed papers are preferred over listicles and content farms. Every proposed source address is then fetched by the server before the fact can be published. Addresses that do not resolve, do not load, or are not public https pages are discarded and never shown.
This check proves that a source exists and can be opened. It does not by itself prove that the source supports the claim; that is what the human review step is for. When no proposed source survives the check, the fact is published with no Sources section rather than with a citation nobody can open.
Review before publication
A person reads each queued fact against its sources and either approves or rejects it. Only an approved fact is ever assigned to a publication date, and only an approved fact carries the “Written and verified by Mataeology Editorial” line and a review date.
Facts published before this process existed are marked as such on their own pages and are being re-checked. Until one has been re-checked it makes no verification claim at all.
Corrections
Every fact page has a “Report a correction” link. Reports go to the address on that link and are read by the operator.
A fact found to be wrong is corrected or removed, not quietly edited into something else. A correction updates the review date on the page. If a fact is withdrawn, its address keeps working and says so instead of disappearing.
What this page does not claim
Mataeology is not a scientific authority and does not perform original research. It reports what accessible published sources say, and it can be wrong. If a fact matters to a decision you are making, follow the sources rather than trusting the summary.
